Welcome our newest +Policy Fellow: Huaiyang Zhong

Dr. Zhong is an assistant professor in Industrial Systems Engineering. His expertise spans the development of predictive analytic models for health risk assessments and analyzing the impact of potential health policy changes.  Past studies related to this Fellowship include research on the potential benefits, both clinically and economically, of depression screening and treatment in patients with HIV, and a comprehensive cost analysis of a potential Hepatitis C treatment initiative, currently under review for inclusion in the Biden administration's annual budget.

Through his Fellowship project, Pain and Risk Assessment for Aging Rural Populations: Implications for Clinical Practice and Health Policy, Dr. Zhong will expand his content expertise with Carilion medical colleagues to explore the interplay between chronic pain management and mental health in older adults. His work endeavors to shape policy recommendations that prioritize patient well-being and cost-effective medical triage.
